Name: Whitney Maher
Tell us about yourself. Where are you from and how did you get here? I have lived in Texas, Iowa, Kansas, California, Colorado, North Carolina, Alabama, and Georgia. I consider myself a Southern girl, because I was born in TX, and have lived in GA the longest.
How long have you been a member at The Garage? About four months
How did you find The Garage? Internet search
What do you like about working out at The Garage? I enjoy the challenge of being pushed beyond what I think I can do. Also, the people and coaches make for a fun environment when you think you might die if you have to do one more rep.
What do you do for a living? Full-time mom to five kids- ages: 8,7,5,4, and 3
What are your hobbies and interests? Crossfit- it’s taking over my life.
What is something interesting about you most people don’t know? I spent most of my adult years over-weight. It was just in the last three years I dropped about 50lbs of fat, and have become fit. I have learned it’s never too late to change your health, and age does not define how fit you can be.
Favorite food(s)? Ice Cream. I don’t eat a lot of it now, but if I could I would eat it every day-at every meal.
Favorite music to workout to? Dance/techno
Favorite WOD, lift or skill? Favorite…hmmm. It’s hard to pick a “favorite” when they all end up causing you some kind of physical pain, HA! I don’t mind rowing, wallballs, kettlebell movements, or rope climbs.
WOD, lift or skill you never ever want to do again? Overhead squats, ugh.
What’s your proudest CrossFit/lifting achievement to date? Getting my first pull-up ever in my life in 17.2!
What’s on your bucket list? Or what are some goals you are trying to accomplish? (either at the gym or otherwise) My biggest goals are to get better with snatches, and pull-ups.
If you could meet one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why? Queen Elizabeth II, because she has been such a stable, good leader for her country for so long. I would love to listen to her memories, because she has been a part of so much history.
If you were trapped on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you? A knife, something to start a fire, and my husband, because he thinks totally different from me and he would most likely be the one to figure out how to get us off the island. Then again, with five kids being alone on a deserted island with my husband might not be such a bad thing….
